As influências da Segunda Guerra Mundial na política de refugiados no Estado Novo português

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo investigar as políticas de refugiados do Estado Novo português durante o período da Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945). Tendo em vista que Portugal desempenhou uma posição neutral perante o conflito, torna-se importante analisar as políticas para com refugiados concebidas pelo governo através das circulares do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros e as suas múltiplas alterações ao longo dos seis anos de guerra. Além disso, visa verificar se estas mudanças foram motivadas pelo desejo do regime ditatorial salazarista em manter-se alinhado aos propósitos dos países que estavam tendo as melhores campanhas ao longo da guerra.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the refugee policies of the Portuguese Estado Novo during the Second World War (1939-1945). Bearing in mind that Portugal played a neutral role in the conflict, it is important to analyse the refugee policies conceived by the government through the circulars of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their multiple changes throughout the six years of war. In addition, it aims to verify whether these changes were motivated by the desire of the Salazar dictatorial regime to remain aligned with the purposes of the countries that were having the best campaigns throughout the war.
