Relações, dinâmicas e tomadas de decisão da Associação Industrial Portuguesa entre 1860 e 1910

Abstract

A Associação Industrial Portuguesa, assumiu, na vida do país, um lugar de relevo na segunda metade do século XIX e inicio do século XX. Organizou os interesses dos industriais, com direito constitucional de representação. O presente trabalho propõe-se a analisar as dinâmicas e tomadas de posição desta instituição entre 1860 e 1910. Iremos examinar os seus grandes objectivos, quem eram os seus associados e quais as orientações seguidas que defensaram nas diversas áreas em que se notou a sua intervenção. Para além de animar a indústria e divulgar publicamente as actividades fabris portuguesas, promoveu a instrução pública, organizou exposições e afirmou-se na defesa aduaneira da indústria, actuando nas diversas épocas e circunstâncias, como interlocutor entre os industriais que representava e os poderes instituídos.

The Portuguese Industrial Association (Associação Industrial Portuguesa - AIP) historically has always played a significant role in the life of the nation, a relevant position in the second half of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th. This association protected the interests of industrialists, with constitutional right of representation. The objective of this paper is to analyze the dynamics and manifested positions by this institution between 1860 and 1910. In it we will examine its goals, who its associates were, which directives were followed that defended the diverse sectors in which its intervention was most evident. More than merely rousing the industry and publically divulging the portuguese factorial activities, AIP promoted public education, organized exhibitions, and took a stand in defending industry customs , acting during several periods and circumstances throughout its history as an mediator between the industrialists it represented and the instituted powers.
