Pôr o Alentejo no mundo: expectativas de uma candidatura do cante alentejano a património imaterial da humanidade

Abstract

O reconhecimento do património cultural imaterial (PCI) foi conseguido nos últimos anos com participação ativa das ciências sociais, alcançando um estatuto igual ao do património histórico e natural. A sua definição foi sendo apurada até ficar estabelecida na Convenção para a Salvaguarda do Património Cultural Imaterial da UNESCO, assinada em 2003. A 28 de março de 2013 foi entregue à UNESCO a candidatura do cante alentejano à Lista Representativa do Património Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade (LRPCIH). Após a avaliação da candidatura, o resultado será divulgado em novembro do corrente ano. Esta candidatura reflete a vontade de várias entidades em obter o reconhecimento internacional sobre o valor patrimonial do cante e também de assumir publicamente o compromisso em promover e salvaguardar esta prática. Esta dissertação pretende ser uma antevisão do que uma classificação da UNESCO pode trazer a nível do património, das identidades envolvidas, da sociabilidade em torno do cante, da exploração turística e das oportunidades comerciais nas indústrias musicais. O contexto atual em que o cante é praticado e as expectativas para o seu futuro serão analisadas, do ponto de vista dos indivíduos que se encontram diretamente relacionados com a candidatura à UNESCO ou com as práticas e políticas do cante.

The recognition of the intangible cultural heritage was accomplished with the historical effort of social sciences at showing the importance of this same heritage, which didn't have legal protection in documentation already produced for the natural and historical heritage. Its definition was being refined until it was established in UNESCO's Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage, 2003. In March 28th, 2013, was delivered at UNESCO the nomination of the cante alentejano to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. After evaluation of the nomination, the result will be divulged in November of the current year. This nomination reflects the will of several entities to obtain international recognition about the patrimonial value of the cante and, also, publicly assume the commitment in promoting and saving this practice. This dissertation intends to be a forecast of what an UNESCO classification could bring in terms of patrimony, involved identities, sociability derived from the cante, touristic exploitation and commercial opportunities in musical industries. The actual context in which the cante is practiced and its expectations for its future will be analyzed, from the point-of-view of individuals who find themselves directly involved with the nomination for UNESCO or with the practices and policies of the cante in a local context.
