| dc.description.abstract | This study examines how emotional and informational cues shape fan sentiment toward Formula 1, with a focus on the growing female audience. Using 5 000 public comments collected from Instagram and X, the research applies crisp-set qualitative comparative analysis to identify the combinations of conditions that lead to positive or negative reactions. The analysis shows that emotional tone is the only condition that is both necessary and sufficient for positive sentiment. It confirms the central role of affective engagement in F1’s digital communities. Other variables such as, representation, brand mentions, content expectations, and gender, appear only in negative pathways and only when emotional tone is absent. These results highlight the importance of emotional storytelling, inclusive communication, and balanced content strategies for engaging diverse audiences. The study contributes to sports marketing research by demonstrating the value of configurational methods for analysing digital fan behavior and by clarifying how emotional mechanisms shape engagement in modern F1. | |
