| dc.description.abstract | The transition toward more sustainable business models is becoming an increasingly important priority for organizations of different sizes, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In this context, it is assumed that the Circular Economy (CE) and Digital Transformation (DT) represent complementary and mutually reinforcing forces in addressing the environmental, economic, and social challenges of the contemporary world. The central objective of this research is to develop and apply a structured method to identify and classify innovative initiatives that integrate CE and DT, with the potential to generate positive impacts on SMEs. The relevance of focusing on SMEs stems from their economic significance, as they constitute the majority of the business landscape in Portugal and the European Union. The methodology adopted is based on a three-phase process: in the first phase, the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) is used to systematically collect inputs from different stakeholder groups, promoting broad participation and enabling the identification of a diverse set of initiatives, challenges, and opportunities; in the second phase, the Adversarial Interpretive Structural Model (AISM) is applied to structure and analyze the relationships among the identified elements, allowing for the comparison of perspectives across different groups and highlighting relevant convergences and divergences; and in the third phase, an analysis is conducted within a strategic framework, aimed at defining practical implementation implications. The selection of these methodologies seeks to ensure the scientific rigor of the study while also producing applied contributions tailored to the specific characteristics of SMEs, thereby strengthening the link between theory and practice. | |
