| dc.description.abstract | The dissertation investigates the accessibility of Deaf and hard of hearing people at music festivals in Portugal, with a particular focus on the strategies and technologies used to promote the inclusion of this community. The main objective is to identify the key obstacles faced in these contexts and to assess the effectiveness of accessibility measures implemented, such as the presence of Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) interpreters, subtitling, and the use of tactile vibrations. The research is based on a mixed-methods approach, combining semi-structured interviews with representative Deaf organizations, cultural entities, and interpreters, together with an analysis of the accessibility strategies currently in place. It also evaluates the impact of these practices on the participation and experience of Deaf and hard of hearing people, considering emotional, social, and cultural dimensions. The analytical dimensions are organized into three main axes: (1) personal experiences in musical cultural events, (2) perceptions of accessibility, and (3) the emotional and social impact of these experiences. These axes relate to the specific analytical goals of the study: identifying the main obstacles faced by Deaf and hard of hearing people at music festivals and concerts in Portugal, mapping the accessibility measures that have been implemented, and analyzing the contribution of these strategies to the cultural empowerment of these citizens. This work contributes to advancing the discussion on auditory and sensory accessibility in musical contexts and provides practical recommendations for the planning and organization of more inclusive events, thereby promoting equal opportunities and valuing diversity. | |
