Research has shown that volunteering is associated with well-being. The present study aimed to analyze the mediating role of social identity in the relationship between volunteering and both subjective well-being (SWB) and psychological well-being (PWB). It also sought to examine whether social identity is more strongly associated with PWB than with SWB, and whether its mediating role is stronger when referring to identification with the group or with the association. The sample consisted of 186 volunteers recruited through a snowball sampling method. Data were collected through an online questionnaire that included the characterization of volunteer work, the Three-Dimensional Social Identity Scale (Cameron, 2004), the Organizational Identification Scale (Mael & Ashforth, 1992), the short version of the Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire (Diener, 2000), the Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire (Ryff & Keyes, 1995), as well as sociodemographic variables. Data analysis was conducted using the SPSS software. Results showed that volunteering is positively associated with both SWB and PWB. Social identity was also found to be positively related to well-being, with identification with the volunteer group emerging as the factor most strongly associated with PWB. However, social identity did not mediate the relationship between volunteering and well-being. In summary, the findings highlight that social identity constitutes an important resource in the volunteering context, reinforcing the role of belonging and group cohesion as key factors promoting well- being.por
