Lisboa e o rio: A cidade: Reencontro com o Tejo

Abstract

As cidades crescem e definem-se maioritariamente a partir da água. O seu cariz geográfico revela-se, desde os primórdios, como uma das principais razões de permanência das populações num determinando lugar. Com a construção do porto industrial no final do século XIX, o semblante de Lisboa, tal como a sua relação com o rio, transformou-se. Passa então a ser indispensável, a reflexão sobre os espaços expectantes consequentes deste afastamento, enquanto lugares de oportunidades e novas dinâmicas. Deste modo, tendo como análise do lugar o Aterro da Boavista, na frente Ribeirinha de Santos, que representa uma memória do que outrora foi a cidade portuária de Lisboa, e que atualmente se revela como zona por desenvolver, esta investigação procura dar resposta ao silêncio do abandono e do vazio que está inerente no lugar. Através de soluções regenera;vas neste espaço urbano, a proposta arquitetónica perfaz a devolução da cidade ao rio, promovendo a cultura e as artes, e preservando uma dimensão pública e social da cidade.

Cities grow and define themselves mostly from water. Its geographical nature reveals itself, from the beginning, as one of the main reasons for the permanence of populations in a certain place. With the construction of the industrial port at the end of the 19th century, the countenance of Lisbon, as well as its relationship with the river, changed. It then becomes indispensable to reflect on the expectant spaces resulting from this remoteness, as places of opportunities and new dynamics. In this way, having as place analysis the Boavista Landfill, at Santos waterfront, which represents a memory of what once was the port of Lisbon, and that currently reveals itself as an undeveloped area, this research seeks to respond to the silence of abandonment and void that is inherent in the place, through regenerative solutions in this urban space. In which the architectural proposal makes the return of the city to the river, promoting arts and culture, and preserving a public and social dimension of the city.
