Development of a web-app using AI for staging and risk prediction of pressure injuries: Usability evaluation and clinical decision support in nursing practice
    (2026-09-18) Kovatsou, Zoi; Bamidis, Panagiotis
Digital health and artificial intelligence (AI) are changing the way we care for wounds, especially in managing pressure injuries. While these new tools are very promising, they can only be successful if healthcare professionals find them easy to use in their daily routine. This thesis evaluates the usability of a new AI web application designed to help nurses stage and predict the risk of pressure injuries. For this study, 28 nurses used the application and then completed the Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ-GR). We analyzed their feedback on three main areas: how well the system works, how clear the information is, and how friendly the interface feels. The results showed an overall usability score of 1.84 (on a scale where 1 is the best and 7 is the worst). This score shows that the nurses were very satisfied with the application. Also, the high reliability of the results (Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.94) confirms that the feedback was consistent and accurate. In conclusion, the study shows that nurses find the AI tool clear, fast, and easy to use, regardless of their age or tech experience. This positive reaction is very important for the future of digital health. It shows that when AI tools are designed with the user in mind, they can truly support clinical decisions and improve patient care.

Exploration of telemedicine acceptance among greek patients with musculoskeletal disordershealthcare system: The effect of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics
    (2026-09-21) Theofilou, Paraskevi; Anastasiadis, Savvas
Telemedicine expands access and has the potential to make healthcare services more convenient for patients, especially those in rural areas, with young children (childcare), and with mobility limitations. The aim of the present study is to explore the level of telemedicine acceptance among Greek patients with musculoskeletal disorders as well as the effect of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics on telemedicine acceptance. A cohort of 120 patients was recruited from two centers in Greece, a private physiotherapy clinic in the broader area of Athens and a public open social structure that hosts elderly people diagnosed with musculoskeletal disorders in the area of Patra. From this cohort, 117 patients provided full data on the variables studied. In order to evaluate telemedicine acceptance, we used an instrument consisted of 35 items across 12 dimensions. These dimensions were namely the following: perceived convenience PC perceived outcome PO perceived medical risk PMR perceived information risk PIR emotional preference EP perceived medical liability PML attitude toward the behavior ATTB subjective norm SN health consciousness HN perceived severity of disease PSD perceived behavioral control PBC behavioral intention BI. A positive and statistically significant correlation of age to perceived medical risk (r= 0.538, p= <0.001) was found. Also, a negative and statistically significant correlation of years of treatment to perceived behavioral control (r= -0.244, p= 0.008) and behavioral intention (r= -0.240, p= 0.009). The present study demonstrates the crucial role that sociodemographic and clinical characteristics play in telemedicine acceptance among Greek patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

Assessing the digital maturity of the telemedicine and e-health in croatian healthcare system: A national-level assessment of digital health maturity and EHDS readiness
    (2026-09-18) Alić, Marta; Bamidis, Panagiotis
Advancing more rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic, the digital transformation of healthcare systems has become a strategic imperative of the European Union. As the accelerated implementation of telemedicine services and e-health infrastructures have shaped health reforms in all Member States, including Croatia, new levels of digital maturity have been reached. This thesis is set to examine the digital maturity of the Croatian healthcare system in the context of telemedicine and e-health development, with special focus on compliance with the European Health Data Space (EHDS) framework. The research applies the HIMSS Digital Health Indicator (DHI) as an analytical framework to evaluate national readiness across four core dimensions: Governance and Workforce, Interoperability, Person-Enabled Health and Predictive Analytics. By using desk-based methodology on secondary data, the study operationalises DHI indicators into an analytical matrix to systematically analyse strategic documents, implementation reports and publicly available materials to evaluate digital maturity of Croatian healthcare. Croatia demonstrates moderate digital maturity across set dimensions as system is characterised by operational national services, but incomplete systemic integration. Subsequently, results suggest partial readiness for large-scale telemedicine deployment and EHDS implementation, with key gaps related to workforce capacity, patient engagement and analytics utilisation. By adapting an DHI framework for national policy analysis, the thesis makes methodology contributions and provide evidence-based recommendations for strengthening digital health governance and interoperability. The study also contributes to theoretical digital maturity research with applicative implications for healthcare practitioners, policymakers and organisations managing digital transformation in Croatia, identifying gaps in conformity between requirements and operational implementation.
