dc.description.abstract | The case study focuses on the merger’s analysis of two Hewlett-Packard’s business units (Imaging and Printing Group, and, Personal Systems Group) in Portugal, which resulted in a new business unit, the Personal and Printing Systems. In general, in a merger, the focus on strategic and operational factors leads to an overlook on chemical factors. This Hidden Side of Mergers will be highlighted here. In the first part of the case was carried out an analysis of AS IS situation, contemplating all the proposals made at the time of the merger (year N-1), which aimed to minimize the impact on people and on the organization’s effectiveness, and, the analysis of the diagnostics made in year N. The comparison between the two moments aimed to verify that, among other potential reasons, not performing (or partially performing) the proposals made in year N-1, has driven to, over a year after the merger, that the cultural process has not happened and the level of people’s motivation has not increased. With the social and demographic study was also possible to verify that some variables are statistically related to organizational trinomial, such as "business unit of origin" and culture, "seniority at Hewlett-Packard" and motivation, and, the "functional area" and commitment. Given the results of the diagnostic, the definition of the intervention project (TO BE) is to provide the top management of Printing and Personal Systems with auxiliary tools to manage the trinomial, with the aim of improving the new business unit’s effectiveness. | por |
