Racionalidade económica e comportamento na separação de resíduos

Abstract

O comportamento dos indivíduos tem-se tornado um fator de estudo primordial. Esta importância traduz-se em necessárias mudanças comportamentais da sociedade a vários níveis, e neste caso especificamente a nível ambiental. O objetivo deste trabalho consistiu em perceber como as normas/motivações afetam o esforço do individuo na separação dos resíduos. Deste modo foi igualmente importante, perceber qual a forma mais eficiente de mudar os comportamentos para uma contribuição coletiva, isto é, informação, recompensas, penalizações. Ao longo deste estudo foi utilizado um questionário, colocado on-line, de preenchimento voluntário. Posteriormente à recolha dos dados, foram testadas hipóteses e discutidos os resultados. O inquérito baseou-se no estudo de três grupos de características que influenciam o comportamento dos indivíduos na separação dos resíduos, nomeadamente as características individuais, os fatores externos e internos. Estes fatores foram medidos através de estatísticas simples e de testes não paramétricos, visto estarmos perante distribuições não normais. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que na amostra recolhida não se verificaram as hipóteses sobre as características individuais. Relativamente aos fatores externos e internos, na generalidade influenciam a separação de resíduos, embora isso não aconteça com todas as variáveis. Relativamente à utilização de recompensas e de penalizações não foi possível verificar as hipóteses apresentadas. No futuro poderá ser realizado um estudo com um maior número de observações e com maior destaque nas normas sociais/fatores externos que influenciam os comportamentos na separação dos resíduos.

The behavior of individuals has become a primary factor to study. This importance is reflected in necessary behavioral changes at various levels of society, and in this case specifically the environmental level. The objective of this study was to understand how rules / motivations affect the individual's effort in waste separation. Thus it was also important to evaluate whether the most effective way to change behavior for a collective contribution, information, rewards, penalties. Throughout this study we used a questionnaire, placed online, with voluntary responses. After the data collection some assumptions were tested and results discussed. The questionnaire was based on the study of three groups of characteristics that influence the behavior of individuals in the separation of waste: individual characteristics, external and internal factors. These factors were measured through simple statistics and nonparametric tests, since we are dealing with non-normal distributions. The results for the sample showed that individual characteristics were not significant. External and internal factors do generally influence the separation of waste, but it does not happen with all the variables. On the use of rewards and penalties was not possible to verify the hypotheses. In the future another study may be developed with a larger number of observations and with more emphasis on social norms/external factors that influence behavior in waste separation.
