Evolução e Crescimento do Ensino Superior em Angola

Abstract

O autor apresenta a evolução do ensino superior em Angola, desde a sua implementação em 1962 até aos dias de hoje, com 140 mil estudantes. A rede de instituições de ensino superior conta neste momento com 17 universidades (10 das quais privadas), 19 institutos superiores (sendo 12 privados) e 2 escolas superiores autónomas (ambas estatais). A pergunta que o autor apresenta é: será que este crescimento se fez acompanhar da correspondente atenção à qualidade de ensino? A resposta a esta pergunta é negativa, porquanto existem vários indicadores que apontam para a promoção da mediocridade e a ausência de aposta em investigação científica, para além da possibilidade de obtenção de diplomas sem a indispensável competência académica e profissional. Mas o mal vem de níveis inferiores de ensino, tal como o autor demonstra.

The author illustrates the growth of higher education in Angola, since its implementation in 1962. It now has 140,000 students. The network of higher education institutions currently consists of 17 universities (10 of which are private), 19 higher education institutes (including 12 private) and two independent higher education schools (both state-owned). The author asks the following question: is this growth accompanied by corresponding attention to the quality of teaching? The answer to this question is no. A number of indicators point to the promotion of mediocrity, a lack of commitment to scientific research and the possibility of obtaining diplomas without the necessary academic and professional competences. But the problem begins in lower levels of education, as the author demonstrates.
