Migrações qualificadas em Portugal: Estudo de caso sobre guineenses em Portugal

Abstract

A presente dissertação foi desenvolvida no âmbito do Mestrado em Sociologia, foco na aérea de sociologia das Migrações. O título do estudo é: Migrações qualificadas em Portugal: estudo de caso sobre Guineenses em Portugal. Em 2024, foi adotado o método de pesquisa quantitativa através de um inquérito por questionário online, aplicado a 79 indivíduos, atuais estudantes e ex-estudantes provenientes da Guiné-Bissau, que vieram para Portugal por motivos de prosseguir os estudos superiores, inscritos nos diversos cursos e nos graus de Cesp, 1.º e 2.º ciclos do ensino superior. Neste estudo, procuramos compreender as experiências desses estudantes em relação à trajetória migratória, num confronto com as suas expectativas e aspirações, ora de retorno ao país de origem, ora de fixação em Portugal no termo dos estudos. Para esta análise, caracterizamos, primeiro, as trajetórias e experiências migratórias de diplomados e atuais estudantes de diferentes instituições do ensino superior (IES) no país de destino (Portugal), segundo, as condições de vida social no percurso de mobilidade internacional por motivos de estudos e, por último, as aspirações de regresso ao país de origem. No estudo constatamos que estas experiências migratórias são tendencialmente masculinizadas e que a vinda para Portugal com um visto de estudo, ou seja, com o estatuto de estudantes internacionais é uma tendência crescente. A área metropolitana de Lisboa acolhe o maior contingente desses estudantes guineenses, tendencialmente, trabalhadores-estudantes.

This dissertation was developed within the scope of the Master's in Sociology, focusing on the sociology of Migrations. The title of the study is: Skilled migrations in Portugal: case study on Bissau-Guineans in Portugal. In 2024, the quantitative research method was adopted through an online questionnaire survey, applied to 79 individuals, current students and former students from Guinea-Bissau, who came to Portugal for reasons of pursuing higher studies, enrolled in various courses and degrees from Cesp, 1st and 2nd cycles of higher education. In this study, we seek to understand the experiences of these students in relation to their migratory trajectory, in a confrontation with their expectations and aspirations, sometimes of returning to their country of origin, sometimes of settling in Portugal at the end of their studies. For this analysis, we characterize, first, the migratory trajectories and experiences of graduates and current students from different higher education institutions (HEIs) in the destination country (Portugal), second, the social life conditions on the international mobility route for reasons of studies and, finally, aspirations to return to the country of origin. In the study we found that these migratory experiences tend to be masculine and that coming to Portugal with a study visa, that is, with the status of international students, is a growing trend. The Lisbon metropolitan area hosts the largest contingent of these Bissau-Guinean students, tending to be student workers.
