Crenças sobre o abuso sexual infantil e a intenção de prevenção do abuso sexual em professores de educação moral religiosa e católica em Portugal

Abstract

A problemática do abuso sexual infantil (ASI) é extremamente complexa e apresenta uma prevalência significativa por todo o mundo, podendo ocorrer em diferentes contextos. O ASI por membros da Igreja Católica tem sido objeto de crescente interesse nas últimas décadas. Tendo em consideração a severidade e a extensão do fenómeno, torna-se crucial que sejam desenvolvidos e implementados programas de prevenção do abuso sexual, em contextos que envolvam a Igreja Católica e que sejam contextos privilegiados de intervenção com crianças/jovens, mas para os quais os adultos facilitadores se sintam capazes. Pretendeu-se assim compreender em que medida as crenças associadas ao ASI estavam associadas à intenção de adotar medidas preventivas, recorrendo a uma amostra de professores de EMRC. Para o efeito, foi elaborado um questionário para medir a intenção e aplicadas as seguintes escalas para aceder às crenças dos participantes: Escala de Crenças sobre Abuso Sexual (ECAS) de Machado et al., (2000) e o Questionário Sobre Abuso Sexual de Crianças – Fatores Desencadeadores/Facilitadores, de Manutenção e Resolução (QCSAFMR) de Alberto et al., (2008). Os resultados indicam uma associação negativa entre as crenças que legitimam o abuso sexual infantil e a intenção de adotar medidas preventivas, e uma associação positiva entre as crenças relacionadas com a resolução de situações sexualmente abusivas e a intenção de aplicação de materiais e programas de prevenção do abuso sexual infantil. Este estudo vem contribuir para uma melhor compreensão sobre a relação entre crenças sobre abuso sexual infantil e a intenção de agir em termos preventivos.

The issue of child sexual abuse (CSA) is extremely complex and shows significant prevalence worldwide, occurring across various contexts. CSA by members of the Catholic Church has garnered increasing interest in recent decades. Given the severity and extent of this phenomenon, it is crucial to develop and implement prevention programs for sexual abuse within contexts involving the Catholic Church, especially in settings where intervention with children and youth is prioritized, and where facilitators feel capable of supporting these efforts. This study aimed to understand the extent to which beliefs associated with CSA were linked to the intention to adopt preventive measures, using a sample of EMRC (Moral and Religious Catholic Education) teachers. To achieve this, a questionnaire was designed to measure intention, and the following scales were applied to access participants’ beliefs: the Beliefs about Sexual Abuse Scale (ECAS) by Machado et al. (2000) and the Questionnaire on Child Sexual Abuse – Triggering/Facilitating, Maintenance, and Resolution Factors (QCSAFMR) by Alberto et al. (2008). The results indicate a negative association between beliefs that legitimize child sexual abuse and the intention to adopt preventive measures, and a positive association between beliefs related to resolving sexually abusive situations and the intention to apply materials and programs for the prevention of child sexual abuse. This study contributes to a better understanding of the relationship between beliefs about child sexual abuse and the intention to act preventively.
