As mulheres saarauís e a UNMS: Envolvimento político na República Árabe Saarauí Democrática

Abstract

As mulheres saarauís vêm ao longo dos anos demonstrando força, coragem e determinação na luta pela libertação do território do Saara Ocidental, um território marcado por conflitos e que até hoje sustenta o título de última colônia africana. Na luta pela libertação do território, primeiro contra a colonização espanhola e depois contra a Mauritânia e o Marrocos (atual “potência” ocupante), as mulheres saarauís surgem como peças fundamentais no movimento de libertação e se tornam o alicerce da RASD no exílio. Esta dissertação tem por escopo analisar o envolvimento político das mulheres na sociedade saarauí. Por meio de pesquisas bibliográficas, este estudo tem por foco verificar o aumento da participação política feminina dentro do governo da RASD, bem como entender como o trabalho da UNMS, na busca pela igualdade de gênero, tem facilitado o engajamento político das mulheres saarauís ao longo dos anos. Essa pesquisa pretende contribuir para a disseminação do conhecimento da causa saarauí, em especial o protagonismo e a importância da mulher na sociedade saarauí na luta pela autodeterminação do Saara Ocidental e na busca por direitos iguais entre homens e mulheres.

Saharawi women have, over the years, demonstrated strength, courage, and determination in the fight for the liberation of Western Sahara, a territory marked by conflicts, and which still holds the title of the last African colony. In the struggle for the liberation of the territory, first against Spanish colonization and then against Mauritania and Morocco (the current occupying “power”), Saharawi women emerged as fundamental actors in the liberation movement and became the basis of the SADR in exile. This dissertation aims to analyze the political involvement of women in Saharawi society. Through bibliographical research, this study focuses on verifying the increase in female political participation within the SADR government, as well as understanding how the work of the UNMS, in the search for gender equality, has facilitated the political involvement of Saharawi women throughout the years. This research aims to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about the Saharawi cause, in particular, the protagonism and importance of women in Saharawi society in the struggle for self-determination in Western Sahara and the search for equal rights between men and women.
