Resumo: This research delves into the literature surrounding the integration of trauma-informed principles within substance abuse treatment frameworks, with a specific emphasis on interventions customized to meet the unique needs of women; seeking to understand the critical role of trauma-informed care in supporting women's recovery from substance abuse within the context of their traumatic experiences, ultimately contributing to the advancement of gender-responsive and trauma-informed practices in the field. This research explores the critical role of trauma-informed care (TIC) in treating women who suffer from substance abuse, emphasizing the interconnected nature of trauma and addiction in this population. This research delves into the principles and implementation of TIC, highlighting the importance of gender-responsive approaches that cater to the unique needs of women. The study also examines the challenges of integrating TIC into existing treatment programs, including limited resources, staff training, and systemic barriers. Through a comprehensive review of the literature and a case study using qualitative methods, this thesis aims to advance the understanding and application of trauma-informed care in supporting women’s recovery from substance abuse, ultimately contributing to more effective and compassionate, and holistic treatment strategies that address both substance abuse and trauma in women.
