Representações da mulher em obras de Helena Almeida, Paula Rego e Joana Vasconcelos

Abstract

A presente dissertação intitulada Representações da Mulher em obras de Helena Almeida, Paula Rego e Joana Vasconcelos, propõe um estudo sobre a representação da Mulher em algumas obras das três artistas portuguesas. Tendo em conta o crescente interesse por parte das instituições artísticas e culturais em dar a conhecer ao público o trabalho realizado por mulheres artistas, e de forma a seguir esta tendência, tornou-se evidente a realização de uma investigação sobre a forma como determinadas mulheres artistas decidem representar a Mulher nas suas obras. Tendo em conta os conceitos de olhar masculino, objetificação e Arte Feminista, são desenvolvidas análises às obras selecionadas de cada artista, com o objetivo de compreender como é que Helena Almeida, Paula Rego e Joana Vasconcelos representam a Mulher, bem como os papéis que estas desempenham nas suas obras e de que forma é que as suas representações refletem sobre a condição das mulheres. Além das análises efetuadas a cada obra, são também desenvolvidas análises comparativas, de forma a averiguar as semelhanças e as diferenças das representações criadas por cada artista.

The present dissertation entitled Representations of the Women figure in works of Helena Almeida, Paula Rego and Joana Vasconcelos, proposes a study on the representation of the Woman figure in some works of these three Portuguese artists. Bearing in mind the growing interest of artistic and cultural institutions in making the work of women artists known to the public, and to follow this trend, it became evident to carry out an investigation on the way women artists decide to represent the Woman figure in their work. Considering the concepts of male gaze, objectification, and Feminist Art, the selected works of each artist are analysed to understand how Helena Almeida, Paula Rego, and Joana Vasconcelos represent the Woman figure, what roles are present in their works, and how their representations reflect the condition of women. In addition to the analysis of each work, comparative analyses are also developed to assess the similarities and differences of the representations made by each artist.
