The water paths in the city of Lisbon are present in its operation, although, over time, its notoriety has been decreasing, especially from the end of the XIX century, with industrialization. The city invaded valleys and agricultural areas and deprived the inhabitants of the direct relationship with the river. The work addresses the urgency of recovering the relationship with nature, making it more sensitive to natural systems and more permeable and productive the artificial-natural relationship. The housing crisis that has been affecting many of the large capitals, such as Lisbon, impels the need to densify them to provide decent housing, which requires thinking about new proposals for collective housing and exploring new ways of building. The exercise is divided into six papers, corresponding to an equal number of theoretical and practical approaches, which focus on understanding the city and its systems, especially the hydraulic ones, and on constructing a proposition about its future. Questioning past and present practices, the proposal is to transform part of one of the city’s most striking valleys, Chelas, into a large urban park, in the image of Monsanto, making it a territory united by an agricultural and inhabited landscape that, with references to the past, contemplates the vision of a future city. |
