Abstract

A presente reflexão crítica tem como principal objetivo identificar um sítio na cidade das Caldas da Rainha onde seja possível intervir e desta forma, propor uma estratégia individual de intervenção, que melhore o modo de vida na cidade. O ponto de partida da análise passa pela observação da cidade, em particular das duas freguesias separadas pela linha férrea do Oeste – a freguesia da Nossa Senhora do Pópulo e a freguesia de Coto e São Gregório. Esta reflexão inicia-se com um estudo realizado em turma que efetua uma leitura crítica sobre o território; o entendimento de aspetos sociais, humanos, económicos e culturais, a identificação de edifícios de interesse público que marcam histórica e culturalmente a cidade, uma análise in situ, fazendo o reconhecimento do território através do caminhar, uma pesquisa sobre questões biofísicas e o mapeamento do território. No seguimento desta análise propõe-se uma infraestrutura de ligação, paralela à infraestrutura da ferrovia, que sugere suavizar o impacto da mesma no território, enquanto potencia a sua capacidade de conexão à escala do peão, aproximando pontos da cidade que se afiguram distantes, mas essenciais no contexto urbano do território. Para além disso, esta infraestrutura de ligação desenha novos momentos de atravessamento – entre os lados nascente/poente - assim como novos pontos de permanência, promovendo o diálogo entre a cidade consolidada e a ESAD, fazendo a ligação entre pontos.

The following critical reflection aims to identify a site in the city of Caldas da Rainha where it is possible to intervene and, in this way, propose an individual intervention strategy that improves the quality of life in the city. The starting point for the analysis involves observing the city, particularly the two parishes separated by the West railway line – the parish of Nossa Senhora do Pópulo and the parish of Coto and São Gregório. This reflection begins with a study conducted as a group that carries out a critical analysis of the territory, understanding social, human, economic, and cultural aspects, identifying public interest buildings that have historically and culturally marked the city, an on-site analysis, getting to know the territory through walking, researching biophysical issues, and mapping the territory. Following this analysis, we propose an infrastructure connection, parallel to the railway infrastructure, which suggests mitigating its impact on the territory while enhancing its ability to connect on a pedestrian scale, bringing together points in the city that may seem distant but are essential in the urban context of the territory. Furthermore, this connecting infrastructure creates new crossing points – between the east and west sides – as well as new points of permanence, promoting dialogue between the consolidated city and ESAD, linking various points.
