As televisões e o prolongamento do acontecimento: O caso Quinta da Fonte

Abstract

Em geral, os acontecimentos noticiados pelos meios de comunicação social permanecem no espaço mediático durante pouco tempo. Especialmente na televisão, os acontecimentos aparecem e desaparecem com uma velocidade avassaladora dando lugar a novas notícias. Muitas vezes, os acontecimentos desaparecem do espaço público sem sequer terem chegado ao seu fim transformando a narrativa mediática num discurso feito de fragmentos incompletos. Mas sendo esta a regra geral, alguns casos fazem a excepção e permanecem nos Media durante vários dias e até semanas. Foi o que aconteceu com o Caso da Quinta da Fonte, em 2008. Neste trabalho, procura-se perceber de que modo o acontecimento se manteve prolongadamente sob a atenção da televisão, como foi feita a cobertura jornalística e qual o momento de viragem e passagem do interesse para o desinteresse no caso. Analisaram-se todas as peças jornalísticas produzidas pelas estações de televisão RTP, SIC e TVI, e emitidas nos jornais televisivos das 13h e das 20h, durante o período entre 11 e 31 de Julho de 2008. Concluiu-se que o Caso Quinta da Fonte foi alvo de uma intensa cobertura televisiva durante cerca de 20 dias, com três fases dominadas pelo tiroteio, manifestação junto à Câmara Municipal de Loures e concentração em Frielas. As televisões seguiram estratégias idênticas dando mais voz aos membros da comunidade cigana e seguindo as suas acções. A maior diferença entre as televisões residiu na utilização das imagens de vídeo amador que a RTP usou com maior reserva do que as estações privadas SIC e TVI.

Usually, events reported by the Media remain under the Media attention for a short period of time. Especially on television, events appear and disappear with overwhelming speed giving way to new information. Many times, the events disappear from the public space without having even come to an end, transforming the media narrative into a speech made of incomplete fragments. But although this is the rule, there are some exceptions which remain in the Media for several days and even weeks. This happened with the case “Quinta da Fonte”, in 2008. This work tries to understand how this event was kept under a prolonged attention of the television, how the Media Coverage was made and which was the turning point - from interest to disinterest - in this case. All news stories produced by the television stations RTP, SIC and TVI, and issued on the 13:00h and 20:00h TV news programmes, in the period between 11th and 31st July 2008, were analyzed. It was concluded that the case “Quinta da Fonte” was object of an intensive television coverage for almost 20 days with three stages well determined and dominated by shooting, demonstration in the “Câmara Municipal de Loures” and concentration in Frielas. Television stations followed similar strategies giving more voice to members of the romany community and following their actions. The biggest difference between the televisions is the use of the images of amateur video which were used by RTP with larger reserves than in the private stations SIC and TVI.
