Identidades no feminino: Narrativas de jovens mulheres afrodescendentes

Abstract

As mulheres afrodescendentes fazem parte da primeira e mais volumosa das ‘segundas gerações de imigrantes’ constituídas em Portugal e, por conseguinte, das mais focadas pelas ciências sociais - a de descendentes de imigrantes de origem africana (Machado, 2008). Mas as especificidades das suas vivências e experiências enquanto mulheres ainda estão a conquistar o seu lugar próprio nas produções científicas. É por isso relevante transpor para os estudos sobre descendentes de imigrantes a ótica de género já adotada para as dinâmicas migratórias, a de genderização das migrações (Yamanaka & Piper, 2005). É através desta lente, que visa o afastamento de discursos de neutralidade e invisibilidade das mulheres, que se analisaram os processos de construção identitária de treze de jovens mulheres afrodescendentes. Mobilizando uma abordagem qualitativa, o presente estudo incidiu sobre os elementos constitutivos das suas identidades, observando as interligações entre ser jovem, ser mulher e ter origem migrante. Os resultados obtidos confirmaram a pluralidade e caráter inacabado das identidades, tornado salientes interligações de marcadores identitários e afastando discursos homogeneizadores sobre estas jovens mulheres.

African descent women are part of the first and largest ‘second generation of immigrants’ in Portugal and, therefore, one of the most studied by social sciences – the children of immigrants of African origin (Machado, 2008). However, the specificities of their experiences as women are still earning its rightful place in scientific productions. Subsequently, we identify the importance of transporting the gendered lens already adopted for the migratory dynamics - the genderization of migrations (Yamanaka & Piper, 2005) - to the studies of children of immigrants. It is through this point of view, that intends to set aside speeches of neutrality and invisibility of women, that we set the goal to analyse the identity construction processes of thirteen young African descent women. Using a qualitative approach, this study focused on the constitutive elements of their identities, observing the connections between being young, being a woman and having a migrant background. The results obtained confirmed the plurality and unfinished character of identities, making evident the links between identity markers and pushing away homogenizing discourses about these young women.
