“Tirem tudo ao alfacinha, mas não lhe tirem a revista!”: As produções do Parque Mayer entre 1968-1974

Abstract

A tese que apresentamos insere-se no Mestrado de Empreendedorismo e Estudos da Cultura, Património e Projetos Culturais, com o título “Tirem tudo ao alfacinha, mas não lhe tirem a Revista”. As produções do Parque Mayer entre 1968-1974. A investigação partiu do conceito de teatro popular, mais concretamente o teatro de revista à portuguesa, enquanto manifestação social que desempenhou um papel de relevância na sociedade da segunda metade do século XX. Ao analisar o teatro de revista na sua vertente social, contextualizado no período do Estado Novo, propõe-se um novo enfoque a nível académico. Assim numa peça de teatro de revista é nos possível encontrar uma vertente de entretenimento e uma vertente pedagógica/critica social. Enquadrámos este trabalho no universo cultural do período do Estado Novo, salientando-se o papel da escola, do SNI, e do teatro popular como meio de proliferação de ideais, ou combate a alguns destes. Este enquadramento foi acompanhado de uma análise à história do teatro de revista à portuguesa desde a segunda metade do século XIX até à queda do Estado Novo, a 25 de Abril de 1974, de modo a compreender a originalidade, complexidade e a maior adversidade deste género de teatro. Como objeto de estudo desta investigação, está o Parque Mayer, em Lisboa, e os seus teatros, cuja evolução histórica foi também analisada. Focámos ainda a nossa atenção numa análise cuidada e minuciosa das várias revistas apresentadas ao público entre 1968 e 1973 – período correspondente à primavera marcelista e final do Estado Novo, justificada pela ausência de trabalhos académicos. Devido ao facto desta temática não ter sido investigada tivemos a oportunidade de consultar toda documentação inédita e analisar a mesma.

The present thesis was elaborated under the Master Course of Cultural Entrepreneurship and Studies, and its title is: “Tirem tudo ao alfacinha, mas não lhe tirem a Revista!”. As produções do Parque Mayer entre 1968-1974. The conducted research considered the concept of the popular theatre, namely teatro de revista à portuguesa, as a social manifestation, that upheld a relevant part in the Portuguese society in the mid XXth century. By analysing the Revista theatre in its social amplitude and perceiving its historical context, a new approach was taken in this thesis. In a Revista theatre play there is alongside the entertainment aspect, a social criticism and educational one that was taken into consideration. This research has a historical and cultural background set in the Estado Novo period, and focuses on the role of school and SNI, as well as popular theatre as a mean of proliferation of new ideas and ideological combat. An analysis on the history of popular theatre in Portugal from the mid XIXth century until 1974 was conducted, in order to understand its originality, complexity and adversity. This study’s object is set on Parque Mayer and its theatres (Lisbon), whose history from 1922 to current date was also analysed. A thorough analysis was also done in the plays that were presented to the public between 1968 and 1973 – the end of the Estado Novo period – and its justified by the absence of academic research in this timeframe. Therefore, due to this fact, we were able to consult and analyse unpublished documentation, that is presented in this thesis.
