Os perfis e as necessidades atuais dos idosos que procuram o Centro de Dia do Centro Social e Paroquial São João de Brito: Um estudo de caso

Abstract

O envelhecimento da sociedade portuguesa é uma realidade cada vez mais presente, com tendência a aumentar. Face a esta problemática, o Centro de Dia tem sido uma resposta procurada pelos idosos, essencialmente para combater o isolamento e a solidão, bem como para auxiliar as famílias em momentos de maior fragilidade. A presente procurou responder à questão "Qual a perceção dos idosos e familiares sobre a resposta social Centro de Dia?", tendo por base o referencial teórico do envelhecimento populacional e individual, do envelhecimento ativo, da resposta social Centro de Dia e do papel do Serviço Social. Realizou-se um estudo de caso através de uma abordagem qualitativa indutiva. O estudo foi aplicado ao Centro de Dia do Centro Social e Paroquial São João de Brito (CSPSJB), tendo sido realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas a dez idosos que frequentam a resposta social, com autonomia ao nível cognitivo, e a seis familiares de idosos que não têm essa capacidade. Os resultados encontrados elucidam que o Centro de Dia se adequa a algumas das necessidades sentidas pelos idosos e familiares, influenciando positivamente as suas vidas, permitindo-lhes viver melhor e com mais qualidade. Verificou-se que existem falhas na resposta às suas necessidades quando não estão no Centro de Dia e na inexistência de uma equipa multidisciplinar. Evidencia-se também a necessidade de acompanhar, sensibilizar e estimular as famílias face à problemática da dependência cognitiva, assim como o trabalho junto dos idosos no que refere aos seus projetos de vida e à sua participação ativa na sociedade.

The ageing of Portuguese society is an increasingly reality, with a tendency to increase even more. The Day Center has been a response sought by the elderly to combat their isolation and solitude and to assist families in times of greater fragility. This research sought to answer: "What is the perception of the elderly and family members about the social response Day Center?", based on the theoretical framework of population and individual aging, active aging, the social response Day Center and the role of Social Work itself. A case study was conducted through an inductive qualitative approach. The study was applied to the Day Center at Centro Social e Paroquial São João de Brito (CSPSJB); semi-structured interviews were conducted for ten elderly people who attend the social response and are cognitively autonomous, and also for six family members of elderly who are no longer cognitively capable. The results found make clear that the Day Center fits some of the needs felt by the elderly and family members, positively influencing their lives, allowing them to live better and with more quality. It has been found that there are flaws in the response to their needs when they are not in the Day Center, and also the lack of a multidisciplinary team. It is also evident the need to monitor, raise awareness and stimulate families to face the problem of the elderly cognitive dependence, as well as work among the elderly regarding their life projects and their active participation in society.
