Abstract: | Num mundo de constante globalização e onde é visível a coexistência de diversas culturas
In a world under constant globalization, where the coexistence of diverse identity cultures at the core of the same social space is visible, it is necessary to analyze the ethnical minorities. Namely the gypsy community, for a better understanding of the way in which its integration is perceived by the surrounding society and what role the social worker plays in the intervening process. The aforementioned facts describe the first general objective in which the current investigation focused on. Since the national context lacks content that precisely defines the gypsy community, nationally, as well as the role of Social Work in this field, the present dissertation was initiated with the aim of contributing to the acquirement of an active voice by this minority during its integration and social intervention trajectory. Thus, the second general objective was focused on the construction of directive guidelines for an integrative intervention, which were based on the information obtained through the discourse carried out by the gypsy community. Therefore, the applied research methodology corresponds to in-depth interviews, with a sample of the gypsy community as well as social workers. The inclusion of social workers in the sample allowed an understanding of their professional practice in the multicultural and/or intercultural domain in order to challenge the processes of social disintegration that the gypsy population experiences. After analyzing the end results, it was denoted that that one of the main factors that places obstacles to effective integration has to do with the equivocal assumptions that are previously disseminated. For this reason, it was perceived that there is an immediate need to socially disseminate information related to the identity peculiarities of this community and of the environment in which it subsists. Also, the applied measures need a readjustment congruent with specific knowledge. |
