In societies of sedentarized immigration, the integration of descendants of immigrants constitutes a significant concern. Such integration is mostly determined by the pattern of transition to adulthood. This paper deals with four theoretical and analytical issues that allow a sociological appraisal of this transition and its outcomes: a criticism of the concept of the "second generation immigrants", the conceptualisation of the descendants of immigrants as common youngsters, a weighting of the diversity of contemporary conditions for the youth, and a deeper consideration of the significance of ethnicity matters |
