Guia de boas práticas e protótipo para desenvolvimento educacional de crianças em idade escolar

Abstract

Nos dias que correm é cada vez mais frequente uma criança ter à sua disposição um dispositivo eletrónico, seja um tablet ou um smartphone, mas a sua utilização é maioritariamente lúdica e não educacional. Estas crianças possuem uma grande destreza em manejar os dispositivos porque, além de lhes ser natural, vêm os seus pais e familiares fazê-lo. Seria uma grande conquista conseguir tirar partido desta evolução para o bem do sistema educacional, pegando na destreza do manuseamento das crianças perante as tecnologias e a sua vontade natural de aprender. Visto ainda existir pouca ou nenhuma informação sobre a aplicabilidade de meios digitais na educação, este trabalho revela-se importante para o avanço da consciencialização da problemática que é o ensino em Portugal e a possibilidade de complementar o ensino com novos meios digitais. Durante esta dissertação foi realizado um estudo sobre a oferta digital existente e os meios tradicionais, identificando pontos de convergência e divergência, tendo sido encontrado um conjunto de "guidelines" que levam à utilização mais eficiente destes dispositivos. Um aspeto a ter em conta, que raramente é contemplado em versões comerciais, é a adaptabilidade e a personalização das tecnologias/aplicações à criança, tal como acontece no meio tradicional em contexto de ensino, pois só assim a aprendizagem será mais eficiente. Utilizando estas "guidelines", e em conjunto com o "feedback" providenciado pelos principais "stakeholders", foi possível desenvolver uma aplicação que se adequou às necessidades não só das crianças, como também dos educadores/pais.

Nowadays, it is increasingly common to see a child with a mobile device at his disposal, being it a tablet or a smartphone, but its purpose is mainly for entertainment, not for the child education. These children possess a great dexterity in manipulating their device, not only because it’s natural to them, but also because they see their parents and family doing it. It would be a great achievement to avail this solution for the good of the educational system, taking the dexterity of the children and the will to learn as tools to achieve it. Since there is still little or no information on the applicability of digital media in education, this work is of utmost importance to increase the awareness of the problem that the education in Portugal represents and the possibility of complementing education through digital means. During this dissertation, it was conducted a study on the existing digital offer and traditional media, identifying points of convergence and divergence, having found a set of guidelines that lead to a more efficient use of these devices. One aspect to consider, which is rarely contemplated in commercial versions is the adaptability and customization of technologies/applications to the child, as seen in the context of teaching in the traditional way, because only then learning will be more profitable and adapted. Using these guidelines and adding the feedback provided by the stakeholders, it was possible to develop an application that fits the need of the children as well as educators/parents. After the development was finished it was possible to obtain positive feedback from the educators/parents and the children, having verified that the set of guidelines was correctly applied to the application. It was also possible to obtain new suggestions for future work, in order to continue the improvement of these guidelines.
