Mobilidade acelerada - o hinterland entre Sines e Madrid. Sines, indústria e estrutura portuária

Abstract

A cidade de Sines - única cidade portuária do litoral alentejano – aparenta padecer, desde os anos de 1970, de uma condição industrial inerte. O grande embate infraestrutural que sofreu, com a criação de um porto de águas profundas, foi insuficiente para promover o crescimento industrial e urbano ambicionados. As infraestruturas sempre foram elementos decisivos na conexão das cidades e no desenvolvimento do território. No entanto, atuar num sistema infraestrutural é uma oportunidade de transformação que atingirá e alterará os sistemas micro, e essa atuação pode e deve ser questionada. As novas realidades infraestruturais tornaram-se um impulso para desencadear as relações de enlace e sobreposição gramatical entre o urbano e o rural. O discurso contemporâneo vira-se para estes territórios em ebulição, sôfregos de entendimento, e nos quais as infraestruturas têm um papel fulcral no seu desenvolvimento. O último grande projeto infraestrutural em Portugal é o Comboio de Alta Velocidade (CAV). O seu principal eixo estabelece a ligação Lisboa-Madrid que conectará a Península Ibérica ao resto da Europa, viabilizando o desenvolvimento do porto e da cidade de Sines. Os arquitetos Eduardo Souto de Moura e Adriano Pimenta, são convidados a projetar a única estação entre as capitais ibéricas: a Estação Évora- Norte. Conhecido por uma obra que se articula entre a escala doméstica e a escala da cidade, Souto de Moura reflete sobre o seu trabalho, inquirindo a escala territorial através das infraestruturas.

Sines - the only port city in the Alentejo shore - appears to suffer, since 1970, from a standstill in terms of industries. The biggest infrastructural shock, with the birth of the ultra-deep-water ship port, was insufficient to promote the industrial and residential growth aimed for. Infrastructures have always been decisive elements in the connection of cities and territory development but act in an infrastructural system is an opportunity that will target and will transform the microsystems. That kind of action can and must be questioned. The new infrastructural realities became a force to trigger the link between the rural and urban living. The contemporary speech turns to these territories in ebullition urging their understanding. To this, the infrastructures play a major part in their development. The latest major infrastructural project is the high-speed rail train, known in portuguese as CAV. Its main axle establishes the connection between Lisbon, in Portugal, to Madrid, Spain, which will link the Iberian Peninsula to Central Europe, paving the way for the development of Sine’s port and the city itself. Eduardo Souto de Moura and Adriano Pimenta, two architects, are invited to project the one and only train station between the two Iberian capitals: Évora-Norte train station. Known for his work that articulate’s itself between the domestic and the city’s scale, Souto de Moura reflects upon his work by inquiring the territorial scale thru the infrastructures.
