Abstract: | A presente dissertação defende a disseminação de práticas de reciclagem comunitária e industrial a nível global.
The present dissertation analyses and promotes recycling practices around the world in communities, but also at the industrial level. Recycling can be defined by a “method of material recovery” which seems to be still under-explored by the institutional system, usually compensated by unsustainable practices of waste management, such as incineration or landfills. A small case-study was developed as to illustrate the potential recycling projects and initiatives can exhibit within the community. Qualitative methods of research were implemented during the case-study, including interviews and participant-observation. The information captured relied on the activities of an association that manages an independent system of toothbrushes recycling in Portugal. The author came to the conclusion that the State, along with citizen participation and producer responsibility, have an essential role in the reduction of global pollution and can implement significant behavior changes in society. In case of low or absent governmental commitment and entrepreneurship action, recycling must be powered by the citizens themselves. |
