This study aims to comprehend the moderation effect of growth need strength in the relationship between job characteristics (skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback) and employees’ affective commitment in the Indonesian Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGCE), an agency under Ministry of Finance of Indonesia. The findings indicate that growth need strength moderates the relationship of aggregated job characteristics, skill variety, task significance, and feedback with affective commitment. Autonomy is not significantly moderated by growth need strength. Instead, autonomy has direct positive effect on affective commitment. The remaining variable, task identity, does not have significant effect on affective commitment, either direct effect or indirect effect through its interaction with growth need strength. Management implications of the findings, limitations, and suggestions for future research are discussed in the end of the study.por
