An investigation regarding the implementation of automated parking systems worldwide, especially in areas with high density

Abstract

This report contains classified information about the investigation regarding the implementation of automated parking systems worldwide, especially in areas with high density. The methodology is based on a multi-method qualitative study by making use of the researcher’s observations, previous knowledge, literature review, as well as semi-structured face-to-face interviews and follow-up email conversations. The overall objective of this report is to create a general understanding of the urban mobility topic, especially the parking problems and how it will develop in the future. In order to receive a better understanding of how an automated parking system can support urban mobility, the concept and how it works will be explained based on the example of SHB Saalfeld GmbH, a pioneer in this area. Combining data and facts from literature, the knowledge of SHB Saalfeld GmbH, and the interviews, the report firstly defines the concept of urban mobility and the automated parking system compared to a conventional parking system. Based on the example of SHB Saalfeld GmbH, the pioneering concept of their robotic parking system will be explained in detail and compared to competitors’ systems. Lastly, the report will finish with several implementation possibilities and financial requirements for the investment in an automated parking system.

Este relatório contém informações confidenciais sobre a investigação relativa à implementação de um sistema de estacionamento automatizado com cobertura mundial, especialmente em áreas com alta densidade. A metodologia de pesquisa é baseada num estudo qualitativo multi-método, com recurso à observação do investigador, conhecimentos prévios e revisão da literatura, bem como, em entrevistas semi-estruturadas realizadas pessoalmente e o respectivo acompanhamento das conversas de e-mail associadas. O objetivo final deste relatório é criar um entendimento da mobilidade urbana, especialmente da problemática do estacionamento nas áreas urbanas e como se irá desenvolver futuramente. Com o intuito de melhor entender como o sistema de estacionamento automático pode ajudar na mobilidade, o conceito do sistema e o seu respectivo funcionamento será explicado tendo como base o exemplo da empresa SHB Saalfeld GmbH, pioneira nesta área. Combinando as informações e factos oriundos da literatura, o conhecimento da SHB Saalfeld GmbH e as entrevistas, o relatório definirá primeiramente o conceito de mobilidade urbana e do sistema de estacionamento automático comparado com o sistema de estacionamento convencional. Baseando-se no exemplo da SHB Saalfeld GmbH, o conceito pioneiro do sistema de estacionamento robotizado será detalhadamente explicado e comparado com sistema dos concorrentes de mercado. Finalmente, o relatório terminará com várias possibilidades de implementação e requisitos financeiros para o investimento em um sistema de estacionamento automatizado.
