Eritrea: a rogue or a strategically constructed threat?

Título próprio: Eritrea: a rogue or a strategically constructed threat?
Autoria: Ylönen, Aleksi
Resumo: Eritrea gained independence in 1993 in the post-Cold War context of changing regional political alliances. From the beginning Eritrea‘s relationship with Ethiopia was strained, and following the Eritrean-Ethiopian war (1998-2000) Asmara encountered increasing isolation in the international arena. This paper focuses on aspects of Eritrea’s contemporary political history in the subregional context. It highlights Asmara’s sour relations with some of its powerful neighbors, which have been integrally linked to Eritrea being increasingly portrayed as a regionally destabilizing and terrorism-supporting rogue state. It is therefore argued here that although Eritrea‘s tactics in its foreign affairs have hardly differed from those of other states in the Horn of Africa, the prevailing political realities in the sub-region have resulted in the strategic image of Eritrea as a threat to regional peace and stability.

West Germany and the Portuguese Revolution: an Introduction

Título próprio: West Germany and the Portuguese Revolution: an Introduction
Autoria: Fonseca, Ana Mónica
Resumo: In this paper I will analyse how the Federal Republic followed the events in Portugal in
the first months after the «Revolution of the Carnations». I will focus on the period from
April 25, 1974 to September, 28, 1974, when the General Antonio de Spínola, President of
the Republic, resigned from his post. From this moment on, the revolutionary process
entered in a new phase.
This paper is a reflection on the role FRG played on the Portuguese transition to
democracy. In the next pages we will analyze the way the German government followed
the political evolution in the first months of the Portuguese revolution. It is mostly the
result of the research on the German Foreign Ministry. In addition, I will also use the
sources already published in the Akten der Aussenpolitik der Bundesrepublik
Deutschland (AABRD) and the documents of the Portuguese Foreign Ministry.

As Dinâmicas da Sociedade Civil em Angola

Título próprio: As Dinâmicas da Sociedade Civil em Angola
Autoria: Pestana, Nelson
