| dc.description.abstract | In highly demanding contexts, such as the legal sector, maintaining engagement is essential for performance and well-being. In this sense, organisational values play an important role in structuring priorities and practices, providing the resources through which engagement is sustained. This study examines the relationship between perceived organisational values and work engagement in the legal sector, specifically among lawyers, and explores the moderating role of affective organisational commitment. Grounded in the Job Demands–Resources (JD–R) model, organisational values are conceptualized as key resources that promote higher levels of vigor and dedication. A questionnaire was developed using the Qualtrics platform and included three validated scales: OCAI (Cameron & Quinn, 2006), Organizational Commitment scale (Meyer & Allen, 1997), and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) (Schaufeli et al., 2006). The sample consisted of 104 legal professionals currently working in Portugal. The findings of this study revealed that perceived organisational values are positively associated with work engagement, particularly values aligned with the Clan orientation, which emphasizes collaboration, support and human development. However, the moderating role of affective organisational commitment was not supported, suggesting that both variables contribute independently to engagement. This study reinforces the idea that values perceived as supportive and development-focused are essential motivational resources in high-pressure environments. It also highlights the importance of fostering emotional bonds between professionals and their organisations to sustain engagement and well-being in demanding legal settings. | |
